About Plateosaurus
Plateosaurus was a large herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Triassic period, approximately 214 to 204 million years ago. It belonged to the group of dinosaurs known as sauropodomorphs, which includes some of the largest and most iconic dinosaurs such as Diplodocus and Brachiosaurus. Plateosaurus was a bipedal animal, meaning it walked on two legs, and it had a long neck and tail. It is thought to have been around 9-10 meters (30-33 feet) long and weighed around 2-3 tons. Plateosaurus had a large head with small, sharp teeth, which it likely used to bite off and chew tough plant material. It also had robust forelimbs with five fingers, which may have been used for grasping or digging for food. Plateosaurus is known from fossil remains found in Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, and it is thought to have lived in herds in open, forested environments.
