About Majungasaurus

Majungasaurus is a genus of abelisaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in what is now Madagascar during the Late Cretaceous period, around 70-66 million years ago. It is known for its distinctive horn-like crests on its skull, which were likely used for display or for head-butting behavior. Majungasaurus was a relatively large dinosaur, measuring around 9-10 meters (30-33 feet) in length and weighing up to 2.5 metric tons. It had a short, robust skull with sharp, curved teeth and strong jaw muscles, which suggest that it was a predatory dinosaur that fed on other animals. It had short, stocky legs with three toes on each foot, each equipped with a single sharp claw. Majungasaurus is thought to have lived in a humid, tropical environment and may have been semi-aquatic, given its habitat and the structure of its feet. Fossilized remains of Majungasaurus have been found in the Mahajanga Basin of western Madagascar.
