About Lophorhothon

Lophorhothon is a genus of small pterodactyloid pterosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 156-145 million years ago. It is known from a single skull and lower jaw that were found in the Morrison Formation of Wyoming, United States. The skull of Lophorhothon is small, measuring only about 10 cm in length, and it had a short and slender snout. The lower jaw had a very large and elongated retroarticular process, which is a projection at the back of the jaw that articulates with the skull. Lophorhothon is classified as a pterodactyloid, which is a group of pterosaurs characterized by their short, triangular skulls and long, slender jaws. It is thought that Lophorhothon may have been a prey specialist, feeding on small insects and other small prey items.
