About Vulcanodon

Vulcanodon is a genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Early Jurassic period, approximately 201 to 190 million years ago. It is known from fossil remains found in Zimbabwe. Vulcanodon was a large herbivorous dinosaur, with an estimated length of about 20 meters (65 feet) and a weight of around 10 tons. It had a long neck, a small head with a short snout and large nostrils, and a massive, barrel-shaped body with sturdy legs. Its tail was relatively short, and it had small, leaf-shaped teeth suitable for cropping plants. Vulcanodon is thought to have been a relatively primitive sauropod, with a number of features that suggest a close relationship to earlier, more basal sauropods. It is believed to have lived in a humid, tropical environment and may have migrated to new feeding grounds during the dry season.
