About Quilmesaurus

Quilmesaurus is a genus of herbivorous sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 156-151 million years ago. It was named after the town of Quilmes, Argentina, where its remains were found. Quilmesaurus is known from a single partial specimen, which includes a vertebra, a rib, and some fragmentary limb bones. Based on these remains, it is estimated to have been about 15-20 meters (49-66 feet) long and to have weighed around 15-20 metric tons. It is thought to have been a relatively small sauropod, similar in size to Diplodocus or Camarasaurus. It is classified within the family Diplodocidae, which includes long-necked, whip-tailed dinosaurs known for their distinctive elongated neural spines. Quilmesaurus is known from the same rock formation as other well-known sauropods such as Argentinosaurus and Mapusaurus.
