Description: Gilmoreosaurus is a genus of small theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic Period, about 156-151 million years ago. It is known from a single specimen, which was discovered in the United States in the Morrison Formation of Wyoming. The specimen consists of a partial skeleton, including a partial skull and several vertebrae and limb bones. Based on the size of the bones in the specimen, it is estimated that Gilmoreosaurus was about 6-7 feet long and weighed around 200-300 pounds. It had a small, slender body with long, slender legs and a long, narrow tail. It likely had a small head with sharp teeth, and may have had feathers on its body. Gilmoreosaurus is classified as a coelurosaur, a group of theropod dinosaurs that includes many smaller, bird-like dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, and other species. It is considered a primitive coelurosaur, meaning that it is thought to be more closely related to the earliest members of this group and may have had some characteristics that were not present in later, more advanced coelurosaurs. Gilmoreosaurus is important because it is one of the few known coelurosaurs from the Late Jurassic Period, and helps to shed light on the early evolution and diversity of this group of dinosaurs. It is also important because it is one of the few known dinosaurs from the Morrison Formation, which has produced many important fossils of other dinosaurs such as Allosaurus and Stegosaurus.
