Description: Deltadromeus is a genus of large, predatory dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, about 100-93 million years ago. It was a member of the group of dinosaurs called the abelisaurids, which also includes species such as Carnotaurus and Majungasaurus. Deltadromeus was a large, agile dinosaur, with an estimated length of about 30-40 feet and a weight of up to 1-2 tons. It had a small, triangular head with sharp teeth and powerful jaw muscles, as well as long, slender legs and a long, whip-like tail. Its body was probably covered in a layer of scales or scutes. Deltadromeus is known from a single, incomplete fossil specimen, which includes a partial skull, a few vertebrae, and the legs and feet. This specimen was discovered in Morocco, and the genus is named after the Greek words 'delta,' meaning 'four,' and 'dromeus,' meaning 'runner,' in reference to the four-toed feet of this dinosaur. Based on the limited information available, it is thought that Deltadromeus was a large, predatory dinosaur that fed on a variety of prey including other dinosaurs, reptiles, and possibly even early mammals. It is considered a primitive abelisaurid, and is thought to be closely related to other members of this group such as Carnotaurus and Majungasaurus. However, much about the anatomy and behavior of Deltadromeus remains unknown due to the limited nature of the fossil record.
